Applications for our February and October intakes have been officially open since the third week in November. You can submit your application online. The deadlines for submission of applications vary according to the intake and courses. We encourage all international applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. This is especially important if you require a visa to travel and eventually stay in Malta.

The Diploma in Diplomatic Studies aims to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge required to participate, contribute and understand contemporary diplomacy. The course will prepare you for a diplomatic career in which you will have a professional understanding and active role in international relations. The study units that are offered are; International Relations and Diplomacy, International Law, International Economic Theory, International and Transnational Law, and Macro and International Economics. During both years of the course, you will participate in a Supervised Individual Project, where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your newly acquired knowledge on the subject.

Requirement for regular progression to Year 2: 30 ECTS

Students who obtain the 30 ECTS at the end of Year 1 and opt not to continue to Year 2 of the course shall be eligible for the award of the Certificate in Diplomatic Studies.

Requirement for the award of the Diploma in Diplomatic Studies: 60 ECTS

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award in the Diploma in Diplomatic Studies under the auspices of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Be familiar with the basic principles and concepts of international relations.
  • Have a basic understanding of concepts in international economics at the micro and macro levels.
  • Have a good understanding of general principles of the areas covered, such as in International Law, Economic Theory and International Economics.
  • Have an appreciative attitude of international, regional and national dimensions of diplomacy.
  • Be able to identify and practice basic diplomatic skills.
